23/11, ride around the Island, day 6, Sun Moon Lake

Left really early again, and to my surprise that meant that I had the streets of Taichung all to myself 😊 So I was able to leave the city without inhaling an unhealthy amount of 2-tact exhaust gasses. Mentally I had already prepared for the worst. On paper today’s ride shouldn’t be to hard… 70k and a gradual climb to 800 meters to the beautiful Sun Moon Lake. However, the weather is a bit to beautiful for my liking, meaning that after around 11 the climbing under the beaming sun and above the radiating asphalt just becomes uncomfortable. Any cloud or patch of shadow provides a welcome relief. And so does altitude. For every 100 meters of altitude gain, temperatures drop 0.5 – 1 degree. Made it to Sun Moon Lake nevertheless, and I must say that the too beautiful weather did it absolute justice 🤗 I arrived at around 130, so I had plenty of time to laze around at the local starbucks. Luckily I don’t have to count calories on trips like these. Good ride and a good place to spend a lazy day tomorrow…. 😴
