22/11, ride around the Island, day 5, Taichung

Got on the way at first sunlight this morning, trying to avoid the heat and traffic. The first bit of riding was really nice: morning chill and no traffic ๐Ÿ˜Š Got my first 500m climb out of the way without any trouble. And at the top of the climb I came across a family of monkeys ๐Ÿ˜Š After that, the sun rose above the mountains, and with a clear blue sky temperatures rose quickly. Also everybody else awoke and decided to take their scooters and motorcycles out for a spin, in large numbers. It felt like I was riding on a race course ๐Ÿ˜‚ With the burning sun, the 2nd climb was a lot less smooth, but by stopping and going and stopping and going, i made it to the top. And at the top was a restaurant that sold the best strawberry smoothies ๐Ÿ˜Š Incredibly nice treat after a tough climb. After that it was mainly downhill to Taichung. On the other side of the mountain it was cloudy, which was a real relief from the hot climb. The last 20k was through the city and through traffic, which also became stopping and going and stopping and going: this time due to the insane amount of traffic lights they have here. At the end of the day my lungs were happy that the ride was over. While living here Iโ€™ve not experienced it that badly yet, but air pollution is a real thing here ๐Ÿ˜ณ Long day, and happy to find my hotel for tonight. However, it turns out that I have to share my room….
